Emma Hayes admits Chelsea unlikely to win WSL title following Liverpool defeat

Emma Hayes conceded that she “doesn’t think” Chelsea will win the Women’s Super League (WSL) title following their dramatic defeat to Liverpool.

Chelsea’s hopes for the title took a major hit with a dramatic 4-3 loss on Wednesday evening, leaving leaders Manchester City in the driving seat.

With only three matches left, Chelsea, the reigning WSL champions, find themselves six points behind City, who have two games remaining.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Hayes said: “I’ve had amazing memories at this football club and we won a lot of things. I’d love to bring titles again to Chelsea but that’s not going to be this year I’m afraid. I think my job now is prepare the team for the last few games to continue and compete, and enjoy.”

“We will never give up but the title is far from us, it’s not in our hands. I think City deserve it, their consistency has put them in that position, and of course we will go until the end but I don’t think the title will be heading to us this year.”

Hayes’ side initially took the lead with Aggie Beever-Jones’ ninth-minute header, but Liverpool turned the tide with goals from Sophie Roman Haug and Gemma Bonner.
