Zheng Qinwen reveals she indeed believes in destiny after becoming the second Chinese player to reach a Grand Slam final on the 10th anniversary of Li Na’s Australian Open win.

On Thursday, 21-year-old Zheng saw off Dayana Yastremska 6-4 6-4 to reach the Australian Open final and set up a meeting against defending champion Aryna Sabalenka. On January 25th, 2014, Li won her second Grand Slam title after beating Dominika Cibulkova at Melbourne Park.

On the 10th anniversary of Li’s first Australian Open win and her second Grand Slam title, Zheng made Chinese tennis history by becoming the second player from her country to make a Major final. Earlier in the tournament, Zheng met her idol Li at Melbourne Park and the two shared a warm moment.

“When everything is working well, I believe in the destiny,” Zheng said in her press conference.

“But if the destiny doesn’t go on my side, I don’t believe that at all. Only depends where destiny goes.”
