Zheng Qinwen beats Sofia Kenin, wins fifth career title in Tokyo

World No.7 Zheng Qinwen continued her successful Asian swing by defeating Sofia Kenin 7-6(5) 6-3 in the final of the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo.

The match featured only one break of serve, with Kenin unable to convert her lone break point opportunity, while Zheng managed to convert just one out of eight. However, Zheng’s dominance was evident in other stats, as she blasted 16 aces to Kenin’s zero and hit an impressive 33 winners—more than three times Kenin’s 10.

On her path to securing her fifth title, Olympic gold medalist Zheng defeated Moyuka Uchijima, Leylah Fernandez, Diana Shnaider, and lastly, Kenin in the final.

Zheng’s win in Tokyo is her latest triumph in what has been a remarkable season. Since Wimbledon, she has won 28 of her last 32 matches. This win is especially significant for Zheng, as Tokyo is the site of her first career WTA final, which she reached two years ago in her tournament debut.
