The first Aussie medal went to 16-year-old Michaela Ryan, with bronze in the women’s 200m butterfly.
“That was amazing, I was not expecting that at all,” she said, “It was amazing being the first Aussie to be on the podium here in Buenos Aires.”

Queenslander Chelsea Hodges touched in 31.42 in the 50m breaststroke to claim silver with her parents watching on.
“To come away with silver – I couldn’t ask for anything better,” she said, “My parents are up in the crowd and I know mum’s probably crying.
Kaylee McKeown brought home Australia’s third medal in the 100m backstroke before she had to jump back in the pool to lead the 4x100m medley to silver. Ryan and Hodges were also part of the medley team along with Abbey Webb who had qualified for the 100m final earlier in the evening.
Australia was leading most of the race before China came through at the end to pip them for the gold medal.
