The WTA has opened an investigation after the Hungarian Grand Prix organizers left a comment about the Zhang Shuai-Kiara Toth drama that some deemed as racist. After being brought down to tears and seemingly robbed in Budapest, Zhang suffered a panic attack and retired the match late in the first set of their first-round match.
Moments after Zhang retired, Toth celebrated by raising her arms in the air and the Budapest crowd was very happy to see the Chinese retiring. Hungarian world No 548 Toth faced a major backlash as many came to Zhang’s support and directed criticism at the Hungarian for her actions.
The Hungarian Grand Prix’s Facebook page seemingly responded to one comment that was critical of Toth. “Described what happened. Amarissa did not decide if the ball was good or not. It was the decision of the linesman and then the chair umpire.
