WSL moves final day of fixtures to avoid Premier League clash

The Women’s Super League has moved its final day of fixtures meaning it no longer clashes with the end of the Premier League season.

Both sets of games were due to take place on Sunday, May 28 but the Football Association has now brought forward the WSL matches by a day, with kick off at 3pm BST (10am ET).

The Women’s Championship — the tier below the WSL — has also seen their final day moved, with those fixtures to take place at the same time.

The move will allow fans to enjoy and attend both Premier League and WSL or Championship matches, instead of having to choose.

Kelly Simmons, director of the women’s professional game at the FA, said: “This has unquestionably been our biggest season ever across the Barclays Women’s Super League and the Barclays Women’s Championship, and the I have no doubt the next few months are going to be even more exciting.

“It’s been a thrilling season so far and we have seen some incredible matches. The end of the campaign is an important moment for us to recognise all that has been achieved over the season, so I cannot wait to see how it plays out and who we are celebrating, and commiserating, come the end of May.”
