Wrexham will be able to play in the top division of Welsh women’s football next season if they win their promotion play-off in April after being granted a Tier 1 licence by the Football Association of Wales (FAW).
The licence ensures that Wrexham are eligible to play in the Genero Adran Premier ahead of the 2023-24 season.
After topping the Adran North this season, Wrexham face Adran South champions Briton Ferry Llansawel in a play-off on April 16 to determine who will take the single promotion spot to the Genero Adran Premier.
Promotion plans were dependent on a successful Tier 1 licence application, which ensures the club and its infrastructure meets the criteria and standards of the top flight.
Wrexham announced in February that they would be applying for a Tier 1 licence to enable the team to turn semi-professional and become “the best women’s team in Wales, in the shortest period practically possible”.
Wrexham would be the first team in the Welsh pyramid to turn semi-pro.
