Wrexham top group and progress to knockouts at The Soccer Tournament

Wrexham ensured they topped their group at The Soccer Tournament (TST) with an 8-1 victory over Say Word FC.

TST is a seven-a-side, 32-team competition taking place in North Carolina from June 1-4. Teams representing clubs from around the world, including West Ham United, Borussia Dortmund and Wrexham, are competing with well-known ex-players and other representatives alongside amateur small-sided teams for a $1million (£807,000) prize.

Wrexham Red Dragons had taken maximum points from their opening two matches after a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Como 1907 and an emphatic 12-0 win over U.S. Women. They progressed to the knockout stages as Group E winners with a comfortable win over Say Word FC, a U.S. team largely consisting of young players with college and lower professional league experience.

Wrexham were 4-0 up after the first half following goals from Filip Mirkovic, player-manager David Jones and a double from Dan Jarvis.

Jones scored his second seven minutes into the second half before Ricardo Aguilar pulled a goal back for Say Word. Louis Loyd got on the scoresheet for Wrexham and Jarvis completed his hat-trick before the second half concluded.
