Bianca Andreescu reveals she put up a lot of mental work to “get rid of the fear and the PTSD” of the Miami injury. In late March, Andreescu fell to the ground and immediately started screaming in pain as the Canadian was heard yelling that it was “the worst pain I’ve ever felt.” After receiving a medical intervention, Andreescu was assisted into a wheelchair and exited the court with tears in her eyes.
Andreescu, who later learned that she tore two ankle ligaments, returned to action this week in Madrid as now she is looking forward to also competing in a WTA 1000 event in Rome. “I worked a lot mentally to try and get rid of the fear and the PTSD of the incident because it was very very painful.
Coming on clay, with the sliding, it could be pretty scary. But I think I’m in the right direction. I’m definitely not 100 percent. I would say I’m 90 percent right now, but 90 percent confident, too, to go out there and push. Today was a great test, so hopefully in a week I can be 100 percent for Rome,” Andreescu told WTA Insider.
