Someone will earn their first Women’s College World Series chip this season. It’s an intrastate matchup with Texas and Texas Tech going head-to-head for the 2025 softball title.
The Longhorns are due to the trophy. This finals marks their third appearance in four years, as they made it to the championship in 2022 and 2024 before losing to Oklahoma both times. The No. 6 seed in the tournament, they have what it takes to get it done with the power of Mia Scott, Reese Atwood and Teagan Kavan.
But Texas Tech is the one that bounced four-time defending champions the Sooners. The Red Raiders made their WCWS debut this year, going undefeated all the way to the championships after walking it off against Oklahoma.
While NiJaree Canady is certainly the star, throwing every pitch in OKC, you can’t forget about Mihyla Davis and Lauren Allred. The duo not only lead Texas Tech in runs this season but also combined to give the Red Raiders the winning score in the semifinals.

Texas and Texas Tech met twice during the regular season, the Longhorns getting both wins in a 2-1 (9) and 11-0 score. A lot has changed in three months, though.
