WNBA: The Sky approached their ceiling, defeating the Sparks 73-63

A Teresa Weatherspoon-caliber Chicago Sky team emerged on Thursday evening as they soundly defeated the visiting Los Angeles Sparks, 83-73. What are the traits of the Teresa Weatherspoon-caliber Sky? Fast-paced, relentless and passionate.

Fresh off a hard loss to the Seattle Storm on Tuesday, when turnovers and a woeful third quarter sealed their fate, Chicago completely turned the tide. Their offense was fluid in the half court and in transition, as they won 10-4 in fast break points. They shared the ball with 27 total assists compared to LA’s 17. The Sky bench also dominated, outscoring the Sparks’ reserves 23-11. Chicago’s defense largely was steadfast, as they held LA to 40 percent from the field and 19 percent from 3. The Sky also forced the Sparks to turn the ball over 18 times. The rebounding matchup was competitive, but Chicago got the upper hand, 35-33.

In all, Weatherspoon’s Sky succeeded in virtually every aspect of the game.
