WNBA: Sun suffer first loss of the season, fall 82-75 to the Liberty

UNCASVILLE, Conn. — The Connecticut Sun’s undefeated start to the 2024 WNBA season came to an end on Saturday, as the they fell to the Liberty 82-75.

Connecticut led after three quarters, but was outscored 25-15 in the fourth. A Tyasha Harris 3-pointer cut the margin to one point, with New York holding the 76-75 advantage, with just under two minutes to play, but Jonquel Jones (22 points, 4-for-7 from 3) responded with a 3 of her own to give the Liberty a four-point lead. Connecticut—who were stagnant offensively in the final period—never scored again the rest of the way, and a Sabrina Ionescu layup extended the lead to six points with 43 seconds to play.

It was the Sun’s first matchup with the Liberty since they were eliminated by them in last year’s WNBA semifinals, and once again, the Liberty came out on top. New York’s victory means that they’ll be the Eastern Conference representative in the Commissioner’s Cup Championship on June 25.
