Projected to finish the season near, if not at, the bottom of the WNBA standings, the Chicago Sky currently sit in sixth place at 1-1 after splitting their opening set of games against the Dallas Wings. The Sky lost the first game 87-79, and won the second game 83-74.
The win marked the first for head coach Teresa Weatherspoon.
Chicago’s decent start largely is attributable to their ability to withstand challenges. Playing against a Dallas squad with arguably more cohesiveness, they found successes thanks to the exploits of some notable players.
Marina Mabrey
From the jump, Mabrey has done a little bit of everything. She led the way in scoring in both games for a combined total of 33 points. Mabrey did plenty of playmaking and finished with a total of 11 assists; she’s also crashed the boards for 17 total rebounds. Her sharp shooting, along with her playmaking abilities, will come in handy as the season progresses.
Angel Reese
All eyes were on the high profile rookie—and she didn’t disappoint. In her WNBA debut, Reese proved that she belonged as she finished with 12 points and eight rebounds, the most for a rookie in Sky history in each category.
