We’ve reached the three-quarter pole of the WNBA season, as every team has played at least 30 games, so it’s a good time to check in on the playoff picture and what’s still at stake.
The Las Vegas Aces are three games clear of the New York Liberty for the top seed and realistically can’t fall any lower than second place. The Liberty could make a meaningful push for the No. 1 seed and home-court advantage through the postseason by sweeping the final two regular-season games against Las Vegas. That would bring them within one game of the Aces plus give New York the tiebreaker.
Of course, the Liberty are also in danger of falling to third since the Connecticut Sun are only three games back and two games remain between them. New York has a difficult schedule the rest of the way (via Tankathon, the toughest in the league), and the Sun have seven home games in their final 10, so even a three-game gap might not be a big enough advantage.
Connecticut seems assured of remaining in the top three with only nine losses so far. Beyond the Sun, however, six teams are within four losses of one another, and only five can make the playoffs. The Dallas Wings sit somewhat above the fray, two games ahead of the rest of the pack. However, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Minnesota and
