They started the season as the best team in basketball, and despite a brief lull in the middle of August, the Las Vegas Aces will enter the WNBA postseason as the No. 1 seed with the league’s longest active winning streak of four games. The defending champions haven’t ceded an inch of their territory; if someone is going to dethrone them, they’ll have to take that crown away.
After a dip for a couple of weeks, the Aces return to the top spot of the power rankings for the final edition of 2023.
1. Las Vegas Aces
Becky Hammon has consistently said that the 2023 Aces have done more with less than the 2022 champs, and that is possible because of the best four-player core in the league. A’ja Wilson, Kelsey Plum, Jackie Young and Chelsea Gray each averaged at least 15 points this season — the first time a foursome has done so in WNBA history. Defending Las Vegas is a real-life Whac-a-Mole, with three more Aces ready to pick up the scoring load when one is shut down. Young had three points in the season finale, and Las Vegas still reached 100 points thanks to a combined 87 from the other three.
At the center of it all is Wilson, who has had the most efficient season of her career and will be even more formidable in the playoffs when her minutes get stretched beyond 30.
