On June 25, the New York Liberty will defend their Commissioner’s Cup Championship against the Minnesota Lynx.
The Lynx finished 4-1 in Commissioner’s Cup play, with their win over the Seattle Storm—their third overall victory over Seattle—proving the pivotal victory. The Liberty cruised through Cup play, with their 5-0 mark highlighted by handing the Connecticut Sun their first loss of the season. Thus far, the Liberty have earned $15,000 for their charity, Women Creating Change; the Lynx have accumulated $13,000 for Gender Justice.
Although New York has insisted a WNBA title, rather than a second Commissioner’s Cup crown, stands as their goal for the 2024 season, they could become the first team to claim back-to-back Cup championships. Breanna Stewart also could add a third Commissioner’s Cup crown to her lengthy list of accomplishments.
