The WNBA is investigating the Aces in connection with forward Dearica Hamby’s allegations of bullying and discrimination by Las Vegas over her pregnancy, the league confirmed to The Athletic on Wednesday. Here’s what you need to know:
- Las Vegas traded Hamby, 29, to the Los Angeles Sparks last month.
- Following the deal, Hamby said on social media that she was told she was being traded because she “wouldn’t be ready and we need bodies.” Hamby alleged she was accused of signing her contract extension with the Aces while knowingly pregnant — “this is false,” she wrote — and that she was told she was “a question mark” and “there was a concern for my level of commitment to the team.”
- The league is also investigating the Aces over allegations the team circumvented the salary cap, a league source confirmed to The Athletic. The Next first reported the salary cap investigation Wednesday.
