Through seven games, the Atlanta Dream are 4-3. They gutted out a great win over the Las Vegas Aces last Friday night, only to follow it up with a flat, offensively futile performance against the Connecticut Sun on Sunday afternoon.
Those efforts encapsulate the Dream in the Tanisha Wright era: inconsistent. A win over the defending champs could generate positive momentum that results in Atlanta maintaining a spot near the top of the standings; instead, the Dream could not find the necessary urgency to compete for four quarters against the league’s lone undefeated team.
The Dream finish up their current three-game homestand against another of the league’s titans, the New York Liberty, on Thursday (7:30 p.m. ET, League Pass). Like the game against Connecticut, it’s a Commissioner’s Cup game—and a must-win one if Atlanta wishes to remain in contention for a berth in the championship.
To understand where the Dream are, and where they might go, let’s take a closer at how the team has performed on both sides of the ball.
