The No. 4-seed Las Vegas Aces’ regular-season struggles were well documented, but mostly dismissed as meaningless bumps in the road for a battle-tested caravan with their sights set on a third-straight championship. Fans knew that come late September, the Aces would show their true hand. A first-round sweep of the No. 5-seed Seattle Storm echoed the authority of last year’s team, but after dropping Game 1 of the semifinals to the No. 1-seed New York Liberty, A’ja Wilson’s entourage is back in question.
The Liberty obviously aren’t just any second-round opponent. No team in recent memory has been more determined to win a title, and New York has all the pieces. Did the Aces come out cold in Game 1? Or, are they really just overmatched?
