WNBA: Connecticut Sun draft pick Helena Pueyo to play for Zaragoza

Helena Pueyo was selected by the Connecticut Sun in the second round of the 2024 WNBA Draft. Born and raised in Spain, she moved to Arizona in 2019 to play for the University of Arizona Wildcats. Last season, her first as a starter, she averaged 9.7 points, 3.6 assists and 3.2 steals per game. She won’t be suiting up for the Sun this season, but she’ll play for Zaragoza, one of the best teams in Europe.

What were your basketball beginnings in Mallorca? That’s a beautiful place to live in or visit, but is there a basketball culture there?

I started playing basketball when i was 3-4 years old at my school because my older brother was playing too, so I wanted to try. And I played at my school La Salle for around 12 years. Mallorca doesn’t have a lot of basketball culture; [it] is not a place known for basketball.
