At just 22 years old, 6-foot-7 Kamila Borkowska is a basketball prodigy.
A mainstay for the Polish national team, she’s also one of the newest additions to the Connecticut Sun’s roster, as she recently signed a rookie scale contract with the team.
She spoke to Swish Appeal about her expectations for playing in the WNBA, as well as her current season for MB Zaglebie Sosnowiec and how she got into basketball. Some highlights from the conversation include:
On being called up to Poland’s U16 national team after just one year of playing basketball:
I think it all happened because of how I was playing in the Polish U16 championships. The team I was on at that time, Sosnowiec, was using me well on the court. And there were coaches from national team [watching] and they just called my team and they said, “We want her national team.” So then I came, and I think, at this time, I was playing basketball for a year and a half. That’s how I went to my first European Championships.
