There’s no downtime in gymnastics. While the Los Angeles Olympics are still three years away, the race to becoming an Olympian begins now at the first elite competition of the year, the Winter Cup.
Last season, Kayla DiCello, Skye Blakely, and Hezly Rivera respectively won the top-three spots at the Louisville-based competition. Rivera, at only 16 years old, went on to compete at the Paris Olympics as the youngest athlete from Team USA.
And the 16-year-old is just getting started. She is the only female Olympian set to compete at this year’s Winter Cup. She’ll be joined by gymnastics Dulcy Caylor, Evey Lowe, and Nola Matthews, who competed in last year’s meet, as well as Paris alternate Tiana Sumanasekera. The competition is up for grabs as USA Gymnastics begins a new era.
