After a one-year hiatus, Serena Williams is back. The 23-time Grand Slam champion will face world No. 113 Harmony Tan of France in the first round at Wimbledon on Monday.
Williams, the seven-time Wimbledon champion, hasn’t played singles since injuring her leg when she slipped on wet grass in the first round of Wimbledon last year. Ranked 1,204th in the world, the 40-year-old star was one of six wild-card singles entrants announced on the women’s side.
Men’s No. 1 seed and defending Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic will play South Korea’s Soon-woo Kwon as he looks to win his 21st Grand Slam title. No. 2 seed Rafael Nadal will face world No. 42 Francisco Cerundolo.
The draw, which was revealed Friday, includes other big names such as women’s top seed Iga Swiatek, who is coming off her second Grand Slam victory. The 2022 French Open winner will face Croatian qualifier Jana Fett as she looks to extend her 35-match winning streak. World No. 11 Coco Gauff, who fell to Swiatek at the French Open, will play Romania’s Elena-Gabriela Ruse.
Wimbledon runs from June 27 to July 10.
