Wimbledon Chief Executive Sally Bolton has responded to Elina Svitolina, revealing the tournament does not plan to make any statements regarding the no-handshake between Ukrainian and Russian/Belarusian players. After Svitolina defeated Belarus’ Victoria Azarenka in the Wimbledon round-of-16, there was no handshake and the crowd booed the Belarusian off the court.
After the match, some asked if Azarenka was booed only because the crowd felt she didn’t want to shake hands with Svitolina. Svitolina then said Wimbledon should release a statement that would clarify there would be no handshakes between Ukrainian and Russian/Belarusian players after matches.
Belarusia’s Aryna Sabalenka agreed with Svitolina when asked about the Ukrainian’s comments.“We’ve no intention of doing that,” Bolton said.
