Sam Kerr is yet to play a match for the Matildas this Women’s World Cup, but could we see her feature in the Round of 16 against Denmark?

The superstar’s availability could be key to the host nation’s chances in the knockouts.

The Sporting News looks at Sam Kerr’s status ahead of Australia’s next game.

Will Sam Kerr play for the Matildas in the Round of 16 against Dnemark?

Kerr was an unused substitute in Australia’s final group game against Canada, with the Matildas securing a dominant 4-0 win.

As well as progressing to the knockouts, the nature of the win meant that they did not need to risk their captain and potentially re-aggravate her calf injury. 

Kerr will now be able to work towards full fitness, with the Matildas’ Round of 16 match against Denmark scheduled for Monday, August 7.

There are still no guarantees the star striker will feature in the knockout clash, with a fitness test likely to take place before she is potentially named in the side.

Kerr has been put on an individual training plan and was most recently seen on an exercise bike on Friday while the rest of the team practiced.
