Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano created history in The Sporting News’ 2022 Fight of the Year. Breaking down barriers, the two warriors battled it out over 10 hard-hitting rounds, wowing a sold-out Madison Square Garden crowd and those watching around the world.
Following the fight, the obvious play was a rematch. Thus far, it’s failed to transpire.
Taylor and Serrano were supposed to fight one another in May after the latter became the undisputed featherweight champion. However, Serrano had to withdraw from the fight due to injury, and Taylor, the undisputed lightweight champion, moved to 140 to take on undisputed champion Chantelle Cameron.
In the 3Arena in Dublin, Taylor’s homecoming ended in disappointment when Cameron beat her via unanimous decision. The Irish fighter will now face off against her conquerer for a second time at the same venue.
Meanwhile, Serrano outpointed Heather Hardy in a rematch and will compete in the first 12 three-minute round contest for women’s boxing since 2007 when she defends her featherweight titles against Danila Ramos on October 27.
