As Marc Skinner faced the BBC cameras, he looked angrier than he ever had before. The Manchester United Women’s manager usually has quite a philosophical demeanour, but it was clear he was boiling with frustration at his team’s performance against Liverpool yesterday.
Despite going ahead early through Ella Toone, an own goal from Millie Turner and a bundled finish from Taylor Hinds gave Liverpool a first WSL win over United. It meant Skinner’s side have already dropped 12 points this season, after only 10 games, and find themselves seven points behind Chelsea at the top of the table. Last season, they only dropped 10 points in total.
Skinner questioned his players’ desire, but he also highlighted those he had available.
“We need to continue to invest to develop the squad,” he said. “We took a lot of injuries this year and it has affected the depth of the squad in three-game weeks. So we need to continue to push our boundaries and keep developing this team, keep adding quality.”
