Who plays at the Alamodome? Home teams, capacity, and more to know about San Antonio stadium

San Antonio, Texas, isn’t currently home to an NFL team, but it is home to a large multi-purpose, domed stadium. The Alamodome was opened in 1993 with the hope of increasing the city’s convention traffic and wooing an NFL franchise, which hasn’t happened yet. 

The Alamodome can be used for a variety of events. It can easily be converted to suit the needs of basketball, hockey, or football games, among other events. It can regularly sit between 20,000 to 70,000 fans based on the sport and seating arrangement.

The Alamodome was chosen as the site for the 2025 men’s Final Four and national championship game, something the stadium first hosted in 1998. The venue was chosen again in 2009, but the March Madness finale didn’t return again until 2019. It hosted the Women’s Final Four in 2002, 2010, and 2021, and it’s scheduled to host the Women’s Final Four again in 2029.
