February is here, and with it comes the race to conference titles. But just because we’re focused on the big dance doesn’t mean that’s all we’re thinking about … I’m spending this month pondering the coaching carousel, end-of-season awards and even looking into next year.
Thankfully, so are our readers. So, we wanted to take a moment to answer some of those questions. Let’s get to it.
Chantel … you have a magic wand. With your super powers, is there something you would change about WCBB? — CE S.
I love this question. As a reporter, I think a lot about the ways that the sport could be improved. But I also understand that I am not the person tasked with implementing those changes, voting on those changes or doing a cost-benefit analysis of those changes (praise be). So, the prospect of just waving this wand in this magical world you’ve gifted me and bypassing all the bureaucracy to get to a place that I believe would be better? Sounds swell.
The one practical change I would make is going back to 2011 and not extending the ESPN/NCAA media rights package. That extension brought us to this point, where the NCAA still has the women’s tournament packaged with almost every other NCAA championship when it is, on its own, worth somewhere in the ballpark of $81 to $112…
