The U.S. Women’s National Team has its final chance to build chemistry and confidence this week before flying to France.
The U.S. Olympic Team faces Costa Rica on Tuesday, July 16 at Audi Field in Washington D.C. in the second and last send-off match before the team heads over to southern France to prepare for their Olympic group stage matches. The U.S. is coming off a 1-0 win over Mexico, with star striker Sophia Smith scoring the lone goal.
In this match, we’ll get to see whether U.S. coach Emma Hayes sticks with the starting 11 from the last match, or whether we see some squad experimentation, including Crystal Dunn playing at forward, Korbin Albert paired with Rose Lavelle, and Emily Sonnett partnered with Naomi Girma in the backline. Hayes may also want to test out Lynn Williams, who was added to the full 18-player squad this week after Catarina Macario had to withdraw due to injury.
Costa Rica enters the match with two wins and two defeats in their last four matches. In their last official match, Los Ticos pushed Canada to extra time in the CONCACAF W Gold Cup, though they ended up losing in the end. Los Ticos feature Angel City midfielder Raquel Rodriguez, former Florida State Seminole Gloriana Villalobos, and youngster Priscila Chinchilla.
