The U.S. Women’s National Team kicks off the Emma Hayes era — and the final four preparation games ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympics — with a pair of friendlies against top-level competition at home.
The United States hosts South Korea (ranked 20th in FIFA’s World Rankings) in a pair of friendly matches in early June, with the first match taking place on Saturday, June 1 at Dick’s Sporting Good’s Park in Commerce City, Colorado, just outside of Denver.
It’s the first match for the veteran English coach Hayes, who agreed to become the next USWNT coach back in November 2023, but delayed her start until the end of the WSL season with her now former club Chelsea.
Hayes has called in a mostly veteran squad featuring the likes of Alex Morgan, who is making her way back from injury, Crystal Dunn, Lindsey Horan, and Rose Lavelle. But notably missing is the injured Alyssa Naeher, meaning long-time backup Casey Murphy will finally get a shot in goal, at least for this series of matches.
There are three uncapped players in the squad, most notably 16-year-old Ajax midfielder Lily Yohannes, who has yet to commit her future to the U.S. but may do so with an opportunity to play in these upcoming friendly games and play at the Olympics.
