UConn looks to avenge one of its worst losses of the season today against Villanova. The Huskies fell to Notre Dame at home, 82-67, to drop to 17-4 on the year. They remain undefeated in conference play, though, at 9-0 and 17-4 on the year.
The Wildcats, meanwhile, got back on the winning side of things with a big 95-64 over DePaul after two consecutive losses a week ago. Villanova sits at 6-3 in Big East games with a 13-7 overall record.
For the Huskies, this game will be all about the two stars – guard Paige Bueckers and forward Aaliyah Edwards. The two combined for 40 points against Notre Dame, while Bueckers averages 20.0 per game and Edwards scores 16.7 points per game.
Villanova is led almost exclusively by guard Lucy Olsen, who averages 23.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game this year. She’s scored the most points for the Wildcats in all but five games this season. Christina Dalce leads the team with 10.6 rebounds per game.
UConn is 17-3 against Villanova historically and beat the Wildcats twice this past season, including in the Big East conference championship a year ago. Bueckers didn’t play in that one, but Edwards led the Huskies with 19 points and 15 rebounds.
