After forfeiting its last two games because of a lack of healthy players, the TCU women’s basketball team returns to action Tuesday night against UCF.
A barrage of untimely injuries left the Horned Frogs reeling, with just six available players last week. Thus, TCU had no choice but to forfeit games scheduled for Wednesday and Saturday against Kansas State and Iowa State, respectively.
“It is simply not a safe environment for the student-athletes to compete right now,” TCU athletic director Jeremiah Donati said in a statement last Thursday.
The Horned Frogs have since added Sarah Sylvester — a middle blocker on the school’s volleyball team and a high school basketball player — as a preferred walk-on. The program also held open tryouts last week.
The forfeits dropped TCU to 1-6 in Big 12 play. The Horned Frogs began the year 14-0 and have not won since star player Sedona Prince — their leading scorer and rebounder — was sidelined indefinitely with a broken finger.
UCF, meanwhile, is the only team beneath TCU in the Big 12 standings. The Knights are still searching for their first conference win, as they are 0-6 in the Big 12; overall, UCF sits at 9-7.
