With a bit of a chill returning to the air across much of North America, winter sports season has arrived.
Some of the world’s best figure skaters have gathered near Dallas for Skate America 2024, which kicks off the seven-city Grand Prix of Figure Skating series.
Competing on home soil for the lone time in the Grand Prix, American teens will be in the spotlight this weekend.
Ilia Malinin of Virginia is the reigning men’s world champion at age 19 and has placed first at Skate America in the last two years.
On the women’s side, 17-year-old Isabeau Levito is the latest American sensation. The Philadelphia native finished second at Worlds last spring and at Skate America last fall. Another 17-year-old up-and-comer, Elyce Lin-Gracey of California, could also be in the podium mix this weekend.
Other events include pairs and ice dance, which features the veteran duo of Madison Chock and Evan Bates, the two-time defending world champions.
