Date:

The quarterfinals of the World Cup conclude as the favourites to win the tournament England come up against surprise qualifiers Colombia in Sydney.

The Lionesses had to work hard to overcome Nigeria, with the European champions eventually prevailing 4-2 on penalties after a 0-0 draw, where one of the tournament’s best players Lauren James was sent off for a straight red card.

They will be without the attacker, who has three goals and three assists to her name, for the next two matches, but will back themselves to get the job done against a Colombia side that has defied expectations in Australia.

They topped Group H with two wins, and then defeated Jamaica in a tight Round of 16 clash to qualify for the quarterfinals for the first time ever.
