The United States women’s roster is constantly filled with recognizable names and famous stars, but fans may be noticing one player missing from the group as they tune in to support the side in the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
Veteran American defender Tobin Heath, who has amassed 181 international appearances for the U.S. and scored 36 goals across a glittering career, has not been selected to the roster of players heading to Australia and New Zealand to compete in the showcase FIFA tournament.
Now 34 years old, Heath has battled a multitude of injuries as she looks to close out her glittering career with a few more memorable stints at the club and international level. The latest of which, a knee injury, has robbed her of the chance to participate in this year’s World Cup.
After electing surgery in mid-September, Heath has been on the mend, but her recovery timeline did not allow her the opportunity to adequately prove her match fitness at the club level, leaving USWNT head coach Vlatko Andonovski with little choice but to leave the popular defender home for the World Cup.
