There has never been a team in the history of the Women’s World Cup to win three straight editions. The United States has a chance to change that.
The ever-loaded U.S. Women’s National Team has won in 2015 and 2019, and finished as the runner-up in 2011. With a win in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the USWNT would set the new record for most consecutive titles, breaking a tie the 2015-19 USWNT has with the 2003-07 Germany team.
This team is loaded with experienced players who have been a part of title-winning teams in the past (including the 2012 Olympic Gold). Both captains Alex Morgan and Lindsey Horan were on the last winning team. Along with the two captains, Kelley O’Hara, Alyssa Naeher, Crystal Dunn, Megan Rapinoe, Rose Lavelle, Emily Sonnett and Julie Ertz were all part of the 2019 team.
Morgan, O’Hara and Rapinoe have been on both title-winning teams and return for the 2023 run.
