Trinity Rodman was part of the Washington Spirit side that fell short in their quest to win the 2024 NWSL Championship. After finishing second place in the regular season, the Spirit went on to see off Bay FC and NJ/NY Gotham FC in the playoffs to set up a Championship Game against Orlando Pride. It ultimately proved a step too far for the Spirit, as they fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat following Barbra Banda’s winner.
Rodman played every minute of the Spirit’s playoff campaign, but she conceded after the defeat to Orlando that she was unable to produce her best form due to a back injury. Speaking after Saturday’s loss, Rodman told reporters: “I wasn’t the Trin I wanted to be today. It’s no secret that I was fighting through back issues pretty much since I got back from the Olympics. Not ideal, but again, that’s no excuse.”
As a result of the back issue, Rodman has been omitted from Emma Hayes’s USWNT squad for the upcoming friendlies against England and the Netherlands. Having been left off the roster, Rodman has officially wrapped up her playing commitments for 2024.
