Two of the biggest teams in women’s college basketball face off today in UConn and South Carolina.
The Huskies have won three consecutive games by a combined 69 points, while the Gamecocks remain undefeated on the year after a huge, 83-45 win over Missouri on Thursday.
UConn forward Aaliyah Edwards remains a force after she led the Huskies in scoring for the fourth consecutive game. She tallied a double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds, while Paige Bueckers scored 13 and Ashlynn Shade scored 18. Head coach Geno Auriemma also became the third coach in men’s and women’s basketball college basketball to register 1,200 wins.
While both teams have been playing lights out recently, the Gamecocks will be without their best player – center Kamilla Cardoso – as she represents her home country of Brazil in an Olympic qualifying tournament. Cardoso also missed South Carolina’s game against Missouri, though it didn’t seem to faze the Gamecocks
Cardoso’s absence could be critical in a game against UConn, though. She leads in scoring and rebounding with 13.8 points and 9.8 rebounds per game and would be tasked with shutting down Edwards in the paint. That honor now falls to forward Chloe Kitts, who tallied 12 points and eight rebounds in the first game…
