Even the lowliest college football teams could get a piece of the spotlight in 2024.
That’s if famed boxing and MMA promoter Roy Englebrecht has anything to say about it. A 2021 International Women’s Boxing Hall of Fame inductee, Englebrecht announced his intention to launch the Irrelevant Bowl, a matchup between college football’s two worst teams.

“No polls, no rankings, no controversy, just two winless or near winless teams looking for redemption and one elusive win,” said Englebrecht, who aims to launch the inaugural Irrelevant Bowl in 2024. “Knowing that the NCAA has become more flexible with the number of team’s wins to qualify for a bowl, I will petition the NCAA asking them to grant a waiver in 2024 so that two teams would be eligible to play in the inaugural Irrelevant Bowl.”
The idea comes from the same impulse that makes Mr. Irrelevant — the final pick of the NFL Draft — so intriguing. People like underdog stories. And what is more of an underdog story than a clash between two winless sides?
