NASCAR driver Katherine Legge just wrote her very first children’s book, and the meaning behind the colorful short story is completely inspirational.
The female race car driver is set to compete in the Xfinity Cup Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Saturday, May 24.
Ahead of the race, The Sporting News had an opportunity to catch up with her regarding her newly released book, “Kat’s Magic Helmet.”
“This all started when my friend Cara from Firestone introduced me to Andy (Amendola). I loved what he was doing with Red Racer Books, making racing fun and accessible for kids, and I thought it would be great to share my story too,” Legge told TSN this week.
“Kat’s Magic Helmet is something I’m really proud of. I hope kids see themselves in it, especially girls who might feel like they don’t quite fit the mold,” Legge said. “If it helps even one kid feel more confident chasing their dream, then it has done its job.”
The book includes the empowering story about Legge’s journey to make it in a nearly completely male-dominated sport. It also talks about her experience as a 9-year-old playing alone as a child because she was shy, something lots of kids face every day.
