It’s a dog-eat-dog world in women’s college basketball, and what better way to get the season cranked up than a game between the Huskies and Wolfpack?
UConn has won the last six matchups against NC State, with the latest being a 91-69 victory for the Huskies early last season. But NC State will never forget its double-overtime loss in the 2022 NCAA Elite Eight.
This time, the Wolfpack have the home-court advantage.
UConn heads to Raleigh on Sunday after a 102-58 win over Dayton. An ACL tear kept Paige Bueckers sidelined all of last year, but she scored her first bucket 585 days against the Flyers. Bueckers had only eight points in her team’s season opener but added seven rebounds and four assists.
Aaliyah Edwards put on a show for the Huskies with 23 points, one of six players in double digits. She recorded nine rebounds, as well, in her senior season debut.

C State lost its four leading-scorers from last season but seemed to do just fine in its opener against Charlotte.
Aziaha James had a career-high 26 points in the 84-43 win. Freshman Zoe Brooks came off the bench to score 12 points, the second-most for the Wolfpack. Madison Hayes added 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
