“Jaws 16” is coming to a TV screen near you.
Joey “Jaws” Chestnut has been appointment viewing every July 4th since 2007, when he unseated Takeru Kobayashi as the most dominant figure in hot-dog eating history.
Since then, Chestnut has won 15 of 16 Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest Mustard Belts, and has eaten 1,073 hot dogs in those 16 tournaments. He was out-eaten just one time in that span, in 2015, by Matt Stonie. Stonie downed 62 dogs to Chestnut’s 60, providing fans with one of the greatest upsets in sports history.
Chestnut rebounded from that loss quite well, and he has seven-tournament winning streak entering 2023. Chestnut is, once again, the odds-on favorite to win the tournament, spelling gastro-disaster for the rest of the field.
