A thrilling semifinals concluded Thursday when Louisville stunned conference rival Pitt while Penn State rallied from two sets down to stun Nebraska. Not only is it the matchup that few expected, it also means that for the first time, a female head coach will own the title.
At Louisville’s KFC Yum! Center, the Cardinals will play in their second-ever title match after falling to Texas in 2022. Never have they won the title, nor has any team from the ACC, but playing in front of their home crowd might be the push they need to get it done. They did so in the semifinals, rallying back stronger than ever after Anna DeBeer went down with an ankle injury.
The Cardiac Cards are no stranger to going the distance, but clearly, neither is Penn State. The Nittany Lions came back from down 22-16 in the fourth set against Nebraska, down 2-1 in the match, to win 28-26, force a fifth, and ultimately get back to the title game for the first time since winning it all in 2014. With Katie Schumacher-Cawley leading the way, for Penn State it just means more.
