France defender Wendie Renard admits she would be open to a return to the national team if called up by Corinne Diacre’s successor.
The 32-year-old announced in February that she was stepping back from international duty and would not compete at the 2023 World Cup to “preserve her mental health”. Team-mates Marie-Antoinette Katoto and Kadidiatou Diani later followed suit.
National team manager Diacre was then sacked earlier this month, with the France Football Federation (FFF) stating the “fracture” between players and hierarchy had “reached a point of no return” and was “detrimental to the interests of the national team”.
The FFF is yet to appoint Diacre’s replacement.
“It’s the coach who will select me if I perform well with my club … but why not (make a return)?” Renard told French radio station Europe 1. “I am a competitor at heart. I love this jersey and I want to do everything to win a title with it.”
France are next in action during April’s international break with friendlies against Colombia and Canada.
Renard has been capped 142 times at international level and represented France at three World Cups.
