Wendie Renard has returned to the France women’s squad following the appointment of new head coach Herve Renard.
The defender announced in February that she was stepping back from international duty and would not compete at the 2023 World Cup to “preserve her mental health,” adding that the national team set-up was “far from the requirements of the highest level”.
Then-manager Corinne Diacre was sacked earlier this month, with the France Football Federation (FFF) stating the “fracture” between players and hierarchy had “reached a point of no return”.
Renard had opened the door to a return if called up by Diacre’s successor and the 32-year-old player — of no relation to Herve Renard — has now been named in the new boss’ first selection for friendlies against Colombia and Canada next month.
