Iga Swiatek, champion of the Roland Garros 2023, has once again confirmed her support for Ukraine and she declared the importance of solidarity among tennis players to counter Russian aggression. The world number one conquered her fourth Grand Slam title by beating Karolina Muchova 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 in the final in an unforgettable match on her court Philippe-Chatrier.
During the post-match press conference, Swiatek reiterated her full support for the Ukrainian population following last year’s Russian invasion. The champion expressed her deep respect for the Ukrainian athletes who continue to compete despite the war situation in their country, saying she didn’t know if she would have been as strong in a similar situation.
She explained: “The only thing I can say is that we , as a tennis community, we should make every effort to stop the Russian aggression. My support goes to all Ukrainians, because I know their situation is not easy. If I were in their place, I don’t know if I’d be able to compete, honestly.
