WATCH: Ezi Magbegor drafted to WNBA – More Sport – The Women’s Game

Dubbed ‘Australian basketball’s next big thing’ Magbegor, was selected by Seattle Storm in the first round of WNBA draft on Thursday morning.

Magbegor already has a gold medal to her name after a successful campaign with the Opals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and picked up a silver at the FIBA World Cup. 

After a nervous wait, at 9:56am her name was read out. 

It was an exciting moment with the 19-year-old joining Lauren Jackson’s former team.

“Ezi is a young and talented player with a bright future in the WNBA,” Storm CEO and General Manager Alisha Valavanis.

“She will report in 2020 and fits into our long-term strategy for this roster.”

The Melbourne Boomer is one of four children to Nigerian parents Patience and Appolus, who migrated to New Zealand when Magbegor was just six.
