CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s tennis team (23-4) advanced to the second round of the 2024 NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship with a 4-0 victory against LIU (11-6) on Saturday (May 4) on the indoor courts of the Boar’s Head Sports Center.
Virginia won the doubles point and took the middle three singles courts in straight sets in a 95-minute match. Senior Sara Ziodato won the clinching point.
The Cavaliers will host Princeton (16-8) on Sunday, May 5, at 1 p.m. in the second-round. Admission is free.
Sophomore Annabelle Xu and senior Hibah Shaikh opened the match with a dominant 6-0 win on doubles court three. Ziodato and sophomore Meggie Navarro clinched the point on court two.
The Cavaliers wrapped up their three singles victories in rapid succession. Junior Mélodie Collard posted a 6-1, 6-1 win on court five, junior Elaine Chervinsky won 6-1, 6-0, and Ziodato went 6-3, 6-1 on three.
