CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia women’s tennis sophomore Annabelle Xu was named a 2024 NCAA Division I ITA Singles All-American, with juniors Mélodie Collard and Elaine Chervinsky earning 2024 NCAA Division I ITA Doubles All-America honors as announced today (June 5) by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
A student-athlete receives All-American singles honors by earning a top 16 seed in the NCAA Singles Championship, advancing to the round of 16 at NCAA singles or finishing in the top 20 of the final ITA singles rankings. All-America status is awarded to doubles teams that earn a top-eight seed in the NCAA Doubles Championship, reach the NCAA doubles quarterfinals, or finish in the top 10 of the final ITA doubles rankings.
Xu advanced to the Round of 16 of the NCAA Singles Championship to earn the designation. Originally an alternate for the tournament, she made the most of her opportunity, picking up straight-set wins against No. 14 Sofia Cabezas of Tennessee and No. 21 Vic Allen of Florida State before falling against the tournament’s top seed, Mary Stoiana of Texas A&M. Xu finished the season moving up to a career-best No. 44 ranking in singles after being ranked No. 71 in the preseason rankings. This is her first career postseason honor.
